Keith Ellison, the 30th Attorney General of Minnesota, visited with Heritage Academy students from Mr. Shanilec's English Language Arts classes last week.  As the People’s Lawyer, Attorney General Ellison’s job is to help Minnesotans afford their lives and live with dignity, safety, and respect. His guiding values are generosity and inclusion.

Podcast Challenge
Students win honorable mention in NPR's Podcast Challenge

 Herigate students participated in the first-ever NPR Student Podcast Challenge. It was a chance for teachers and students in grades five through 12 across the country to turn their classrooms into production studios, assignments into scripts and ideas into sound.  Students produced their own podcasts -- writing unique and original scripts.  These podcasts were sent to NPR by teacher Sonja Langlie.  Click here to read the exciting news we heard from NPR.

Somalis + Minnesota at the Minnesota History Center

Experience artifacts, photos, and stories of Somali history from Baadiye to Mogadishu to life in Minnesota today.

Explore Somali culture, from life in Africa, through the massive migration that began in the 1990s, to today’s large, well-established Minnesota Somali community. This exhibit was developed in partnership with the Somali Museum of Minnesota.
